Where stories enter the world.

Sarah Bronkhorst

Freelance moderator & presenter, journalist, editor, and researcher.

A passion for storytelling

My focus lies in telling comprehensive stories through journalism, documentary filmmaking and other media.

Journalism

At the Washington D.C. office of the Dutch Public News (NOS) I produced television, radio, as well as online articles and reportages. My reports have also appeared on Columbia-university’s Eurasianet network.

Documentary Filmmaking

At the award-winning NYC-based documentary production company 4th Row Films, I contributed to the pre-production and research process of biopics, autobiographical films, and geopolitical documentaries.

Editorial Work

At de Kiesmannen, I worked on the script of the National Election Show. This is an initiative to make politics accessible for young voters. My topic of expertise focused on the European Union. I also wrote copy for a FinTech startup based in Amsterdam.

Interviewing

My favorite aspect of journalism is the interviewing process. For nearly two years, I served on the Room For Discussion committee, the interview platform of the University of Amsterdam.

Presentation Skills

Joining the presenting-team of De Kiesmannen, I presented twice the ceremonies of EYE, the largest youth-focused event in the EP, in Strasbourg for 10.000 people. I also co-hosted the Lux Audience Awards 2024.

International focus

With experience in New York, Washington DC, Strasbourg, and Amsterdam, I allow for an international perspective in all of my work.

Biography

Born in South Korea in a multicultural household,

Sarah always traveled around since she was little. Moving from one country to another, she had lived in South Korea, Singapore, and Switzerland in her early childhood. At seventeen, Sarah traveled for a year through the South American continent. There, her interest in journalism ignited. Hearing stories directly in Argentina about the monetary crisis, or in Peru about the presidential chaos, she wrote all of these informal interviews down in her own notebooks. Listening to the silverminer in Potosi who felt a deep sense of subjection to injustice, or a surfing-instructor in Costa Rica who couldn’t pay his rent due to gentrification, she knew she wanted to highlight these stories.

Working at the silver mines in Potosí, Bolivia. The inhabitants of Potisí are still experiencing the injustices caused by the Spanish colonization: almost all of their silver has been stolen. (2019)
Interview with Secretary of State, Sigrid Kaag

As a student at PPLE (University of Amsterdam),

Sarah pursued a major in international law, while following courses in politics, psychology and economics. This education gave her the bagage and deepened knowledge to explore journalism through an interdisciplinary lens. During these university years, she joined Room for Discussion, De Kiesmannen, and co-founded the StudentenStemwijzer.

In 2022 and 2023,

Sarah worked in NYC and Washington D.C. as producer and editor at a NYC-based documentary production company and at the Dutch Public News.

Sarah speaks English and Dutch fluently, and is proficient in Spanish.
